Do you remember flipping through your family albums when you were a child? Sitting there, wondering what your parents looked like, how you looked like as a baby and as a child, reminiscing your childhood, be back in those days for a minute. I know I do! These are the albums that tells my parents’ story and the beginning of mine! I absolutely love going through these, they are family heirlooms! Investing in albums and prints to have your family memories right where you can see them everyday.
But these days we live in a digital world, and we all want those digital photos, and albums are turned down. And it kind of breaks my heart.
We all know photography products are expensive, and in a way hard to justify or fit into your budget when you’ve already paid for the photographer and the digitals. But these days, investing in albums and prints and other tangible products, is something you will never regret doing. Finding a good photographer that you connect with (because it’s much more than just smiling to the camera) is significant to get the images you’ve always dreamed of, and be proud and happy to display them in your home! It’s an investment for your memories, your life and your family’s!
So are they worth the investment?
The short version: YES!
The longer version: here’s 5 reasons why investing in albums and prints is worth the investment:
There’s something about the high quality feel, touch and smell of a freshly printed album. A book that is unique to you and to your family, something that you will always treasure.
After your session, you get all the digital images, you feel excited, happy to share them on social media and send it to your friends and family. But after a month or two, the excitement fades away, and your pictures start piling up under other pictures on your phone and your computer. How many times will you go through them, to look at them and share with your family? That number will go down over the years.
Printing your photos will give you a constant reminder of that certain point in your life. Memories that will throw you back to this chapter you were in when you took them. Having your photos printed and accessible and easy to reach gives a total different feeling than if you were to look at them on a computer screen, or worse, a phone screen.
There is something nice about showing your loved ones a piece of your story on a beautiful heirloom album. Imagine for a second that you displayed your album on the coffee table or on the bookshelf, and friends and family come over. You sit, have a drink and go through your album, and while you hold your memories in your hands, you’re reminiscing about when you were pregnant with your first, how tiny was your baby when she was only a few days old, or when she just started to learn how to walk or talk, and just relive the day together. Can you image what an amazing gift that would make for your children someday? They would look back through the album and see exactly who you were, how you were like together when they were still so small, etc!
In case you didn’t know, these are the good old days!
And I believe your memories deserve to have a second life. Having tangible memories of your family is priceless. It’s your story and your children’s childhood. The one they will go through as they grow. The one they will remember and show their children, or how mom and dad were so beautiful and young! I don’t know about you, but I love seeing pictures of my mom and dad when they were children, and feel this sense of wonder of what was life at that time! I love to see my parents and my family’s story, to just have a visual representation of where I come from!
Heirloom albums are all about you and your family’s story and they are made to last a lifetime and pass down generations. Of course, you could do this kind of albums yourself, but it takes time, and it can become overwhelming (Which lab should you go with? Which pictures should you choose? How do you choose a layout? What paper should you select?). Your photographer will do it all for you and you will get a clean, uncluttered album you will be proud of. And as this is done by your photographer, the excitement of seeing your album for the first time is something you want to experience.
As mentioned earlier, these are the family heirlooms. One book that holds your family memories, the best moments of your life you can relive whenever you decide to pull that album out of the shelf. These are the kind of memories that brings the family together, when you look at your album with your children and show them how much you love them as you flip through the pages. And trust me, these kind of moments don’t happen naturally when you are looking at your images on your smartphone.
Do you remember how your parents albums are? The ones where you were still a baby, the ones you went through with your parents when you were a child? Not so classy, right? I remember the pictures were in these plastic pockets… Well, thankfully with today’s modern technology, I’m pleased to tell you that your album will look amazing and last for generations. These albums are printed and colored correctly with thick high quality pages. A professional album has a more luxurious and sturdy cover and when its stored correctly, it will be in the same condition in 50 years, as it was the day you received it. These albums are made to last a lifetime!
I have never had one client that were disappointed with their album. Instead, they love to talk about it and say how much they love it. Plus, it’s a great family gift. Having a book with your family’s story is the most precious heirloom gift ever! Printing your photos in the form of an album or prints to hang on your wall is one of the best gift you can give your children, and make home YOUR home. To finish: investing in albums and prints after your session is the best decision you can make to keep your memories alive!
