This sweet family, who just came from Germany, where they used to live, contacted me to do some beach family photos in Key Biscayne, FL. They wanted to remember their current family’s stage after the birth of their second daughter. I love to talk and connect with moms before the session day: helping them choosing the best time, outfits for the family and location to get the best results, is part of the experience :). Talking and planning together also helps us connect, and the day of the session everyone feels more comfortable and relaxed (and it shows on the pictures).
We arrived to the beach a few minutes after sunrise, and surprisingly, it was a little bit cold! Last minute change of plans: let’s bring the jackets and blankets. Sienna (8 weeks old) had just woken up from her cozy car nap. Olivia, her big sister, was so excited to spend some time at the beach. I started by taking pictures of Olivia, as she was so excited to be in front of the camera and show me everything she could find on the beach. She was also telling me about her new baby sister and it was the cutest thing. This little girl was so adorable and her personality reminded me so much of my son, Liam, who’s the same age. Babies and toddlers are so fun to be around, and freezing their little temper into a still image for families to remember forever, is one of my favorite things to do.
Thankfully, the sun warmed us up pretty quickly and we were able to toss the jackets after a few minutes. Dad and Olivia were having a lot of fun playing and running around, while Mom was rocking and warming up Sienna. I absolutely loved witnessing the love each family members share for each other and capture it. During a session, I go with the flow and follow the babies’ leads. I love to capture all the candid and ordinary moments, that’s what tell the best stories: your family’s story.
Chaos is part of motherhood, and it brings life to the pictures. Moms, do not fear if you see your children running around and not wanting to smile for pictures. Most of the time, babies and toddlers want to do whatever they like, and it’s totally fine with me! Finding beauty in chaos is what I love the most. And together, we created a really nice story of love and laughter, just like you want to remember those times!
